Dear Parents,

You are the foundation of our learning team. Thank you so much for all your support!

There are so many ways that you can contribute! Here are some of the classroom positions that are available:

  1.  Homework Leader: This important volunteer monitors and checks the weekly homework, partners with the teacher to motivate students to complete and excel on homework and serves as a resource to link the home and school. I'm encouraging parents that are very comfortable with first grade skills to volunteer for this position.
  2. Homework Stapler: You will help the teacher by preparing homework packets. You will order pages and staple them so the students can more easily complete the homework.
  3. Meet the Masters Art Teacher: Once a month, the PTA partners with the classroom volunteers to provide an assembly about a famous artist and then comes into the classroom to teach an art lesson based on the work of that artist. The PTA provides training, supplies and support for the volunteers. Mrs. Stuart will be in the classroom as you teach the lesson to assist you.
  4. Seasonal Craft Leader: Certain seasons (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter Celebrations, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day) just scream out for crafts to be made by first graders. Every kid should have the chance to cut, glue, paint and just generally do the same kinds of little projects you did in first grade. The seasonal craft leader will partner with Mrs. Stuart in developing craft ideas, preparing the materials (with the help of other parents), and helping the kids create those projects.
  5. Party and Event Leader: We only have a few parties each year (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter Celebrations, Valentine's Day, Parents Appreciation Night, End of School Year), so we want them to be special. The party leader will partner with Mrs. Stuart to plan these parties, purchase party supplies (with the help of other parents) and help to facilitate the fun!
  6. Reading Fluency Leaders: Join our class for half an hour before school and/or during school hours to help students learn the high-frequency words, test and track progress, and celebrate our success. Even half an hour a week can make a big difference in the life of a child who is learning to read. Flexible scheduling, materials are supplied, guaranteed rewards! Just imagine the look in a child's eyes as he reads his first picture book, his second, his third! The whole world opens for a child when he learns to read. You can bless the lives of many children with your gift of time.
